Discussion

Charlotte Pass is Australia's highest permanently inhabited settlement. The weather station is sited on the valley floor near the local chalet at an elevation of 1755 m. The minimum temperature was confirmed by three independent readings and the minimum thermometer's calibration was checked against other thermometers. Possible effects of vibrations were discounted following check of special rubber anti-vibration mounts which hold the alcohol-in-glass minimum thermometer inside the screen (Buckley, 1955)
